Softball Announces 2012 Spring Schedule

"Our schedule provides for challenges at every turn in 2012," said Voak. "With six WCWS participants on the sheet and three home tournaments to kick off the campaign, we are looking forward to an exciting season. Conference USA is as talented as it has ever been and our out-of-conference opponents will provide us with the type of games we need to prepare ourselves to win a conference championship."
The Golden Eagles open the month of February with three tournaments at home with single games scheduled at Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana scattered in. Southern Miss will host the Southern Miss Coca-Cola Classic, Feb. 10-12, the DeMarini Invitational, Feb. 18-19, and the Southern Miss Invitational, Feb. 24-26.
Southern Miss is also working to schedule a fourth tournament for the 2012 schedule but has not yet been able to finalize those plans.
On March 7, the squad travels to Jackson to take on their first NCAA tournament participant with a doubleheader at Jackson State. The remaining five NCAA participants the Golden Eagles are scheduled to face include C-USA foes Tulsa (March 24-25), Memphis (March 31-April 1), East Carolina (April 21-22), UAB (April 28-29) and Houston (May 5-6).
The following weekend, the Golden Eagles open Conference USA play at UTEP on March 10. Central Florida and Tulsa will come to town the following two weeks with a trip to Mobile to take on South Alabama in between.
On March 27, the Golden Eagles will travel to Ridgeland to take on Ole Miss in the first of two neutral site games amongst in-state rivals. On April 4, they will return to Freedom Ridge to take on Mississippi State.
Southern Miss will close their home schedule on May 2 when the host Southeastern Louisiana and close their regular season and conference schedule on the road at Houston, May 5-6.
