Golden Eagle Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Green Wave

Senior Lauren Sears led Southern Miss (9-12, 3-6) with a team-high 10 kills. Ashley Mell added nine kills while Amelia Hendrickson and Sarah Jane Bowden chipped in eight kills each. Lisa Knecht tallied a match high 25 digs with Kelsea Seymour adding 11 digs and 37 assists.
Milica Jovic and Izabela Grot led the Green Wave with 11 kills apiece. Nikki Osuna collected 17 digs and Grace Weaver chipped in 10.
The Green Wave out hit Southern Miss to .241 to .162 and out blocked Southern Miss 10.5 to 4.0.
Tulane ran out to a 6-1 lead before USM cut the lead to 6-4. The Green Wave tacked on four more points for a 10-4 lead, forcing the Eagles to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, Hendrickson sparked a 4-0 run with a kill and an ace while Sears added back-to-back kills to get to 10-8. Out of a Tulane timeout, the Green Wave got a kill to halt the Eagles' run. With Tulane leading 16-11, Southern Miss then rallied to tie the set 21-21. After a Tulane timeout, Weaver and Grot added kills for the Green Wave for the 23-21 lead. Mell then connected on a kill to get to 23-22, before an Eagle error gave Tulane set point. Southern Miss fought off one set point before Tulane's Jovic ended the set with a kill for the 25-23 win.
Southern Miss opened the second set with two Bowden kills in taking a 2-0 lead. Tulane tied the set at 2-2 with a Weaver kill and USM error. From there, the two teams battled back and forth until Tulane took a 7-7 tie and turned it into a 10-7 on a kill and two USM errors. Bowden got a USM kill before Grot added a Tulane kill and Mel Mandelbaum recorded an ace for the 12-8 lead. A Southern Miss timeout did not slow Tulane as the Green Wave extended its lead to 16-11 to force another Eagle timeout. Tulane ended the set with a 9-6 run for a 25-17 win.
The third set featured 14 times and seven lead changes. Neither team was able to pull away as the largest lead by either team was four points. Tulane led 10-7 before Southern Miss got four kills from four different players in taking an 11-10 lead. Out of the Tulane timeout, Hendrickson's kill put the Eagles up 12-10. Tulane got kills from Jovic to tie the set at 12-12. The two teams battled for the next seven points before Tulane added a kill and block to go up 18-15. After a Southern Miss timeout, the two squads battled to a 21-21 tie. Out of the Tulane timeout, Hendrickson put down a kill and followed with a block to give the Eagles a 23-21. The Eagles were unable to maintain the lead as Tulane finished the set scoring the final four points for the 25-23 win.
Southern Miss continues its road swing, traveling to UTEP for a Friday night match with an 8 p.m. (CT) first serve.
