Volleyball Host Tulsa

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team will host Tulsa, one of four teams with a 2-0 conference record, in volleyball action Friday at 7 p.m., in Reed Green Coliseum.
The Golden Eagles enter the contest with an 8-5 record overall and 1-1 in league play. Southern Miss split its conference opening series with Rice last weekend. The match will pit the league's top two in kills and points scored in Tulsa's Tyler Henderson and USM's Ashley Mell. The two rank one-two, respectively, in each category. The two also rank in the top 10 in the nation in both categories as well with Henderson leading the nation in both.
Mell paces the Eagles offensively, averaging 4.88 kills per set to go with 5.54 points per set. Sophomore Halie Ecker is next on the team with a 3.37 kill per set average. Lauren Sears is tops on the team in hitting percentage at .315. Kelsea Seymour guides the team offensively, averaging 11.31 assists per set. Lisa Knecht leads the defense with 4.65 digs per set.
As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 12.12 kills and 15.53 digs per set while outhitting its opponents .244 to .213.
Tulsa is riding a 10-match winning streak and owns an 11-2 record overall and 2-0 in league play. Henderson leads the team, league and nation in kills with a 6.41 per set average while hitting .318 in the process. Jessica Adams leads the Hurricane in digs with 4.57 per set while Jordan Clampitt is averaging 13.20 assists per set to lead the league.
Tulsa leads the series against Southern Miss, 3-2.
Southern Miss travels to SMU for a match on Sunday.
