HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team, which has played on a Thursday and Friday night over their first three games this season, finally get a normal game-week preparation schedule heading into its final non-conference tilt of the regular season at Louisiana Tech.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., Saturday, in Ruston, La., and the game can be seen on the internet at ESPN3.com or heard on one of the affiliates of the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network.
Third-year coach Larry Fedora said after practice Tuesday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility that the team has put in 75 percent of the game plan for the Bulldogs this weekend and despite some busts on the first day of practicing for a new team, the squad moved around well.
The team also was able to have its first normal practice that they would usually utilize on Tuesday.
"This is the first true routine that we have had and that made it a little nicer too," said Fedora of the team's solid practice. "They have had their normal deal from Sunday on (this week)."
Fedora praised his junior quarterback after practice, Austin Davis, who ended the 31-16 Kansas win from the previous weekend with 155 yards throwing to go along with 61 yards rushing and a touchdown.
"He feels pretty good right now," said Fedora of Davis. "As we have come along, he has felt better and better. He is back in the swing of things and he is moving around good. He is right where he wants to be right now."
The Golden Eagles and Bulldogs will meet for the 43rd time with the Golden Eagles holding a 29-13 overall record. This is the first game between the two schools since the 1992 season.
Southern Miss has sold its allotment of tickets for the game this weekend, but plenty still are available for the game by calling the Louisiana Tech Ticket Office at (318) 257-3631.
