Team Notes
*Today's Captains were quarterback Austin Davis, linebacker Jeremy Snowden and defensive lineman Anthony Gray.
*Today's attendance was 30,211.
*USM has won 10 consecutive home games, dating back to the 2008 season.
*Southern Miss improves to 4-12 all-time against the Big XII.
*Southern Miss is now 5-3 against teams from Automatic Qualifying conferences in Hattiesburg in the BCS era.
*Head Coach Larry Fedora is now 5-1 all-time in non-conference home games.
Offensive Notes
*Senior center Cameron Zipp started his 29th consecutive game and 31st overall.
*Senior running V.J. Floyd threw his first career touchdown pass when he connected with Jonathan Massey on a one-yard pass on the opening drive.
*Sophomore wide receiver Mujahid Asaad recorded his first career reception in the first quarter.
*It was Massey's first reception of the season and third touchdown of his career.
*It marked the first touchdown pass by a Southern Miss running back since Damion Fletcher connected with Leroy Banks on a three-yard pass against East Carolina (Nov. 28) last year.
*It the first time that Southern Miss has scored a touchdown on the opening drive this year.
*Sophomore running back Desmond Johnson had a 49-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. It is his third touchdown of the season and fourth of his career.
*Johnson rushed eight times for a career-high 89 yards.
*It is also the longest rush of his career and the team's longest rush of the year.
*Junior Austin Davis connected on 19-of-24 for 155 yards. He also rushed nine time for 65 yards.
*Davis' one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was his first of the season and 12th of his career.
Defensive Notes
*Southern Miss held Kansas without a touchdown in the first half. It is the second straight game that Southern Miss has held its opponent without a touchdown in the first half.
*Senior Korey Williams recorded his first sack of the year. He now has 8 ½ for his career.
*Octavius Thomas and Jeremy Snowden combined on a sack in the second quarter.
*Freshman defensive lineman Khyri Thornton recorded his second career sack in the third quarter.
*Senior defensive back Chico Hunter recorded his first sack of the season. He now has 2 ½ sacks for his career.
* Southern Miss did not force a turnover for just the third time under Larry Fedora.
Special Teams Notes
*Tim Green blocked a punt in the second quarter and Deron Wilson returned it seven yards for a touchdown. It is the first blocked punt for a touchdown since Michael McGee returned one against Marshall in 2006.
*It is also the second straight game that the Golden Eagles have blocked a punt. Deron Wilson blocked one last week against Prairie View A&M.
*Danny Hrappman connected on a career-long 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
