Volleyball Hosts Mississippi State In Midweek Matchup

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team returns to Reed Green Coliseum when its host in-state rival Mississippi State in a mid-week match at 7 p.m. Livestats on GameTracker will be available Southernmiss.com web site.
Southern Miss (6-4) is coming off 2-1 weekend in which the Golden Eagles finished second in the Magnolia Classic with wins over Louisiana and Samford. The lone loss was to Ole Miss in a five set thriller.
Junior Ashley continues her strong play for the Golden Eagles. The outside hitter collected 58 kills including 24 against Ole Miss for her fourth 20-plus kill match. Sophomore Halie Ecker also recorded a career high with 25 kills against the Ole Miss. Libero Lisa Knecht tallied a career-high 32 digs against Louisiana, marking her first 30-dig performance. Kelsea Seymour, who earned the conference Setter of the Week, is averaging 10.95 assists per set and has 90 digs. Mell and Halie Ecker were named to the Magnolia Invitational all-tournament team for their performances.
Mississippi State (8-2) who finished 1-2 in the Saluki Invitational that included a loss to Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State and a win against South Florida. The Bulldogs are led by second-year head coach Jenny Hazelwood and junior opposite-side hitter Caitlin Rance, who leads the team in kills with 136 (4.00 kps). Libero Kayla Woodard is averaging 4.85 digs per set and owns a team-high 11 aces.
Mississippi State leads the all-time series with Southern Miss, 41-12. The series is one of the longer running series among the Golden Eagle opponents.
Southern Miss opens C-USA play, Sept. 24, when the Golden Eagles host Rice.
