HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss went through its first two-a-day workouts here Monday, going through two-plus hour workouts in each session at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles went through the morning workout in shoulder pads and shorts and then in full pads during the afternoon practice.
Following the second workout, Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora announced that three of the Golden Eagle running backs, V.J. Floyd, Desmond Johnson and Tracy Lampley, had been limited in practice due to injuries, but added that none were of a serious nature.
"They are just nicked up," Fedora said. "Each one has something small that have them being held out for today. We haven't had anything serious (with injuries) - just your normal stuff. We are eight practices in and (so far) just your normal nicks and bruises that you get. (Head Athletic Trainer Todd McCall) felt like he needed to hold those guys out. We'll see if they are out there tomorrow."
Fedora also announced that freshman Dominique Sullivan from Taylorsville, Miss., has been moved from quarterback to wide receiver.
"Right now he knows that he's going to redshirt as a quarterback," Fedora added. "In talking to him, he wanted to see if he could get on the field. We talked about that and he said he would like to make that move right now to see what he could do then in the spring if he wanted to come back to quarterback, he'll come back to quarterback. Right now he's going to take a look at wide receiver."
The third-year coach also congratulated junior linebacker Korey Williams, who was tabbed to the Bednarik Trophy Watch List earlier in the day.
"That's great," Fedora said. "It's nice to be noticed for being on the football field. I don't imagine he's thought too much about that to be honest with you. It's great to be on the watch list. Hopefully, he plays at a level that will bring that kind of attention."
The Golden Eagles will return to just one practice on Tuesday with a late-afternoon workout as they continue to ready for their season opener, Sept. 2, at South Carolina.
