HATTIESBURG, Miss. - It was game day for the Southern Miss football team. Well, sort of.
A week before its scheduled season opener at South Carolina, Sept. 2, the Golden Eagles utilized a two-hour mock game in which they went through different situations that might occur during a contest.
That mock game concluded a long-day of Golden Eagle festivities as the team went through their normal day-of-game routine. The important stuff, though, was handling the various situations that the coaching staff handed the players during the evening.
"We got just about every situation that we could possibly think of as a staff covered in the kicking game, offense and defense," Fedora said. "We had to see how the players reacted to it and how the communication was on the sideline and to see the exchange of personnel in all three phases and how that all worked out."
Fedora said the reason that his staff did this was to recognize the problems that they had so that can give them a chance to correct them come next Thursday night in Columbia, S.C.
"It was fun for them to get out there under the lights," Fedora added. "It was good for our return guys to catch the balls with the lights on and the receivers as well. They are excited are ready to play someone else."
