Three Southern Miss Players Named to C-USA Preseason Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss wide receiver DeAndre Brown, defensive lineman Anthony Gray and linebacker Korey Williams were all named to the 2010 Conference USA Football Coaches Preseason Team in an announcement Wednesday by the league office and voted on by all 12 coaches.
Eleven of the 12 C-USA schools were represented on the preseason team with Tulsa leading the way with five selections, followed by UCF and Houston with four each and then Southern Miss with three.
The lone offensive selection for the Golden Eagles, Brown, a junior from Ocean Springs, Miss., registered 47 catches for 765 yards during the 2009 season and caught nine touchdown passes. He ranks No. 3 on the Southern Miss career chart for touchdown receptions with 21, while ranking fourth in receiving yards (1,902) and sixth in catches (114).
On the defensive side, Gray, a senior from Philadelphia, Miss., and a preseason Outland Trophy Watch List member, tallied 40 tackles last season including seven tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. In addition, he notched one fumble recovery and one forced fumble last season.
Williams, a junior from New Orleans, La., established a school single-season record last season with 77 assisted tackles and led the squad in total stops with 121. He also posted 11 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks to go along with three forced fumbles and two recoveries.
Houston quarterback Case Keenum garnered the league's preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while UCF defensive end Bruce Miller collected the Defensive Player of the Year nod. Houston returner Tyron Carrier nabbed the Special Team Player of the Year preseason accolade.
The Golden Eagles begin preparations for the upcoming season, Tues., Aug. 3, when they open their fall camp. The season opener is set for Thur., Sept. 2, in a 6:30 p.m. CT contest on ESPN at South Carolina.
