Softball Team Hosts Ole Miss in Ridgeland, Miss.

HATTIESBURG, Miss.--The Southern Miss softball team has a full slate this week as the Golden Eagles play the first of five games beginning with a game against Ole Miss in Ridgeland, Miss., at Freedom Ridge Park on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets prices are $5 and free to children 8-and-under will be available at the gate.
Southern Miss comes into the game with a 14-17 record overall after dropping a three-game series to UTEP. Senior Megan Hill leads the team offensively with a batting average of .355 followed by Jill Mathis and Leslie LeJune at .330 and .318, respectively. Hill leads the team with 27 RBIs and eight home runs. LeJune leads the team with 35 hits while Mathis is right behind at 32. The Golden Eagle pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.39 with a combined 193 strikeouts. Freshman Gabby Luciani owns a team-low 2.89 ERA in 97.0 innings with 110 strikeouts and a 5-6 record. Courtney Ramos owns a 6-7 record while working 74.1 innings and 54 strikeouts.
Ole Miss is 20-15 on the year following a doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State last week. Lauren Grill paces the Rebel offense with a team-best .464 batting average with 23 RBI followed by Corrine Doornberg and Amber Tramp at .396 and .369 batting clips, respectively. Lindsey Perry owns a team-low ERA of 2.87 to go with a 6-3 record for Ole Miss. Brittany Barnhill is 8-4 with a team-high 92 strikeouts in 81.1 innings pitched.
Southern Miss and Ole Miss have played 20 times in a series dating back to 2000. Ole Miss leads the overall series 11-9 against the Golden Eagles. The two teams played a single game last season in Ridgeland with the Rebels taking the win, 7-3.
Following the Ole Miss game, the Golden Eagles travel to Lorman, Miss., to play Alcorn State in a single tilt on Wednesday, then, return home to face Tulsa in a three-game conference series, April 10-11 at the USM Softball Complex.
