Men's Tennis Falls to Conference Foe UAB, 4-2

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss (6-10, 0-3) fell for their third consecutive match to Conference USA foe UAB 4-2 on the road at the Goldring Tennis Center in New Orleans on Thursday.
The Blazers made quick work to secure the doubles point as Tyrone Ewels and Daniel Moser defeated seniors Diego Machucha and Markus Wessinghage 8-4 at No. 2. Sophomore Patricio Alvarado and senior Strate Krstevski also fell at No. 3 to Tom Puetz and David Zimmerman by the same score.
Senior Jan Burmeister and junior Julien Roussel, playing at the top did not finish their match with Alex Emery and Danny Manlow.
In singles play, Southern Miss had more success as Alvarado made quick work of Emery at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-2 to tie the overall match score.
Zimmerman then knocked off Roussel with two 6-3 sets to give UAB the lead before Burmeister took down Moser 6-3, 6-2 to draw the match to 2-2.
Dan Cornei broke the deadlock by defeating Krstevski 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 and Manlow took down Diego Machucha at 7-5, 6-3 for the fourth and final point of the match.
Oscar Machucha and Ewels were unable to finish their match as the overall outcome had already been decided.
Southern Miss will now take on Tulane and will look to take down the Green Wave for their first conference victory of the year.
