HOUSTON, Texas - Houston scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth in a come-from-behind effort to defeat Southern Miss, 10-5, in game two of Conference USA play Saturday.
Southern Miss falls to 12-8 and 0-2 while Houston improved to 12-9 and 2-0.
"We came out early and scored," Coach Howard Dobson said. "We jumped out on them 3-0 in the first game and 5-0 in the second game. We have to figure out a way to keep our intensity up for the entire game. We gave them some runs and they chipped their way back and beat us 4-3 in extra innings. They score the first run on a walk and two errors and we should have been out of the inning. Errors are becoming a reoccurring thing for us. We have to do a better job of playing defense and figure out a way to keep scoring instead of coasting through the middle innings."
Bailey Watts (7-3) got win giving up five runs on six hits, but allowed only three bases runners in the final five innings. Beth Dietrich (3-2) who came in relief of Gabby Luciani took the loss.
