Mell and Seymour Earn AVCA All-Midwest Region Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team placed two players on the 2010 Midwest All-Region squad with juniors Ashley Mell and Kelsea Seymour in an announcement today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
This is the duo's first all-region honors as they were named AVCA all-region honorable mention last season. Mell played and started all 31 matches while leading the team in kills with 512 (4.41 kps). She ranked second in the league in kills and owned a team-best 18 doubles-doubles. Mell recorded a season-high 26 kills against Miami (Fla.) and a career-high 29 digs against UAB (10/31). She posted 10 matches with 20 or more kills and 27 matches with double-digit kills. She was second on the team in digs with 347 (2.99 dps). She finished with 78 total blocks (26 solos, 50 assists). Mell was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week (11/1), the Southern Miss Invitational MVP and to the Magnolia Classic all-tournament team. She also ranked in the top 20 nationally in kills and points.
Seymour played and started all 31 matches and tallied 1,272 assists for a 10.96 per set average. She ranked second in the league in assists. She was named C-USA Setter of the Week three times. She finished third on the team in digs with 286 for a 2.47 per set average. Seymour posted 13 double-doubles and recorded the league's only triple double. She recorded a career-high 63 assists against SMU (10/3) while earning Southern Miss Invitational all-tournament team honors. She recorded 125 kills on a .322 hitting clip to go with 46 total blocks (9 solos, 37 assists).
