Golden Eagle Volleyball Falls To Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Southern Miss volleyball team lost to Tulane in the season finale by a score of 25-16, 26-17, 25-16.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 19-12 overall and 12-8 in league play while Tulane improved to 13-19 overall and 10-10.
Ashley Mell led the Eagles with 11 kills while Elizabeth Rinaudo totaled 10 digs.
The two teams started out evenly until Tulane used a 5-1 run for the 10-6 lead. Southern Miss cut the lead to two occasions only to see the Green Wave bolted out to an 18-13 lead forcing the Eagles to take a timeout. Mell erased a point with a kill, but Tulane tacked on three points for the 21-14 lead with a block and back-to-back kills. Tulane ended the set with a 4-1 run to take the first set, 25-16.
Southern Miss took a 2-0 lead to start the second set before Tulane battled back to take the 6-4 lead on a block, a USM error and ace. The Green Wave pushed the lead to 13-8, forcing the Eagles to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, Tulane added a kill before Mell's kill ended a four-point run by Tulane. Tulane kept its momentum going and finished the set with an 8-4 run for the 25-17 win.
Following the intermission, Tulane opened the third set scoring six of the first seven points and never looked back. The Golden Hurricane led 14-7 as the Eagles took their final timeout to slow the Green Wave offense. Down the final stretch, Tulane ended the set with a 6-4 run to complete the sweep, 25-16 win.
