Southern Miss Volleyball Wraps Up Regular Season at Tulane

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss volleyball team concludes the regular season at Tulane for its second meeting of the 2010 season on Saturday, Nov. 27. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Southern Miss fell to 19-11 and 12-7 in conference play after a 3-0 loss to Marshall on Nov. 21.
Golden Eagles Preview
The Golden Eagles continue to out hit their opponents at .225 to .205. Southern Miss is averaging 13.88 kills per set, 13.01 assists per set, 16.65 digs per set and 1.88 blocks per set.
Redshirt junior Ashley Mell leads the team with 501 kills (4.43 kps), while junior setter Kelsea Seymour has dished out 1,250 assists (11.06 aps) on the year. For the second straight year, both earned first team All-Conference USA accolades.
Junior libero Lisa Knecht paces the team defensively with 553 digs for a 4.89 per set average, while junior Lauren Sears leads the team with 25 aces. Mell and Sears lead the team in blocks.
Scouting the Green Wave
Tulane is coming off two victories last weekend with a 3-1 win at Marshall on Nov. 19 and a 3-0 win over East Carolina on Nov. 21. The Green Wave sits at 12-19 and 9-10 in conference play.
Izabela Grot leads a balanced attack for the Green Wave with 353 kills (3.24 kps), followed by Milica Jovic at 305 kills (2.77 kps). Mel Mandelbaum has netted 958 assists (8.72 aps) while Amaris Genemaras is one of five players with 200 or more digs with 310.
Southern Miss vs. Tulane
The Golden Eagles have already met the Green Wave this season recording a 3-1 victory in Hattiesburg. Tulane leads the all-time series with Southern Miss, 45-8. The series is one of the longer running series among the Golden Eagle opponents at 53.
