2010 CONFERENCE USA VOLLEYBALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM ANNOUNCED Southern Miss lands two on the All-Academic Team
IRVING, Texas - Five seniors, four juniors and three sophomores were named to the 2010 Conference USA All-Academic Volleyball Team, as selected by the league's Sports Information Directors. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on their team.
Leading the 12-member squad was Marshall senior Elizabeth Fleming. The South Bend, Ind., native was the team's lone unanimous selection with her 4.0 GPA in International Affairs and minor in French. Fleming, who earns her third-straight C-USA All-Academic honor, is a member of the Yeager Scholars, a program which has allowed her to study abroad at Oxford and also in Morocco. She has started and played in each of Marshall's matches this year, leading the team with 10.09 assists per set.

A pair of Memphis student-athletes garnered the academic honor as senior Christine Bach and sophomore Altrese Hawkins were selected. Bach, the senior libero, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in international business in May of 2009 and now holds a 3.98 GPA in the MBA program at Memphis. The Dresden, Germany, native earns her fourth C-USA All-Academic honor of her career and is a two-time ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honoree. On the court, Bach leads the Tigers with 444 digs, playing in all 115 sets this season. Hawkins earns her first C-USA All-Academic honor as the redshirt sophomore holds a 3.68 GPA while double-majoring in Biology and Psychology and pursuing a minor in Spanish. She leads the team in kills (455), points (492) and points per set (4.28).
Rice senior Tracey Lam earns her third All-Academic honor as she claims a 3.753 GPA as a double major in Economics and Asian Studies. She also is studying for a minor in business. A two-time C-USA Libero of the Year, Lam leads the league with 667 digs and is also the Rice record holder for career digs.
Caitlin Adair and Dana Powell represent SMU on the C-USA All-Academic team for the first time in both their careers. Adair, a senior Psychology major, maintains a 3.946 GPA and has earned the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll each semester while at SMU. Powell holds a 3.512 GPA as a Business and Accounting double major and has led the Mustangs this season in kills with 396.
Tulane's Lindsey Shepard receives the academic honor for the third time of her career, as she holds a 3.884 GPA as a Biomedical Engineering major. A senior, Shepard was named the 2009-10 Tulane Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She leads the Green Wave with 82 total blocks on the 2010 campaign.
Sophomore Sam Serley of UAB earns her first career C-USA All-Academic team recognition with her 3.7 GPA. A native of Nashville, Tenn., Serley is a Health Science (Pre-Med) major and a member of UAB's Student-Athlete Advisory Council. She also leads the Blazers with 323 kills and a .324 attack percentage.
Rounding out the 2010 C-USA Volleyball All-Academic Team are UCF's Kristin Fisher and Tory McCutcheon. Fisher, a junior, has built a 3.755 GPA as a Health Sciences major in her time at UCF and has led the Knights in kills with 467. She is a five-time member of the UCF Dean's List. Sophomore McCutcheon owns a 3.979 GPA and is pursuing a biology degree while serving as a contributing member of the Knights' squad.
