Volleyball Travels to Houston

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -The Southern Miss volleyball concludes a three-match road trip on with a two-match series against Houston, Oct. 10-11. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. on both days.

The Golden Eagles enter the match with an 8-7 record overall and 1-3 in conference play. Southern Miss averaged 14.38 kills per set, 13.81 assists per set, 1.06 aces per set, 17.19 digs per set and 1.44 blocks per set against teams in the league. Junior Ashley Mell leads the squad with 73 kills (4.56 kps), while junior setter Kelsea Seymour posts 193 assists for a 12.06 aps average. Junior Lisa Knecht leads the squad with 92 digs, averaging 5.75 dps. Seymour recorded a career-high 63 assists against SMU while Knecht tallied a career-high 35 digs.
Houston is currently 3-2 in league play with wins against Tulane, UCF and UTEP and losses to Rice and Tulane. The Cougars are coming off a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-15) win at UTEP. Lucy Charuk leads the team with 182 kills (3.08 kps) while Amanda Carson is tops in digs with 291 (4.93 dps). Amber Brooks directs the offense and has 622 assists (10.54 aps). As a team, Houston is hitting .227 while averaging 13.17 kills, 12.15 assists, 1.42 aces, 13.63 digs and 2.03 blocks.
Houston leads the series with Southern Miss 16-5. The Golden Eagles won last season's contests including a 3-1 win in the C-USA Tournament.
Southern Miss returns home to host UCF, Oct. 15 and UTEP, Oct. 17. The match will be streamed live on Southern Miss all-access and live stats will also be available.
