Volleyball Eagles Head to Memphis, UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team looks to extend its winning streak with trips to Memphis and UAB this weekend. The Golden Eagles face the Tigers on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m., followed by a meeting with the Blazers on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.

The Golden Eagles improved to 13-9 and 6-5 in conference play last Sunday with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21) victory against East Carolina. Southern Miss climbed into fifth in the Conference USA standings.
Against the Pirates, Southern Miss attacked at a .260 rate, while holding East Carolina to .102. Southern Miss is averaging 13.93 kills per set, 13.13 assists per set, 1.09 aces per set, 16.38 digs per set and 1.79 blocks per set on the year. Redshirt junior Ashley Mell leads the team with a 4.53 kills per set average, while junior setter Kelsea Seymour paces the Golden Eagles with 11.29 assists per set. Junior Lisa Knecht averages 4.74 digs per set.
Memphis currently sits at 4-6 in conference play with a 13-9 overall record. The Tigers have won two of their last four matches, including wins against Houston (3-2), and UTEP (3-1). The Tigers lost their last match, 3-0, to UCF on Sunday. Altrese Hawkins leads Memphis with 3.86 kills per set with Hajnalka Molnar guides the Tigers with 7.36 assists per set and Christine Bach averages 3.84 digs per set.
Southern Miss and Memphis have met 36 times prior to Friday's match with Memphis leading the series 22-14. This is the first meeting between the two schools this season.
UAB currently is tied for 10th in C-USA with Marshall. The two squads are 3-7 in league play. The Blazers snapped on a two-match losing streak with a victory against UTEP, 3-1. Sam Serley and Jordan McDonald average 2.93 and 2.80 kills per set, respectively. Heather Thomas leads the team with 5.29 digs per set while Alison Woods paces the team with 7.43 assists per set.
This is the first meeting between the two teams this season. Southern Miss is 17-18 all-time vs. the Blazers.
The Golden Eagles remain on the road on Friday, Nov. 5 for an 8 p.m. re-match with UTEP. Southern Miss also travels to UCF on Sunday, Nov. 7. The squads meet at 12 p.m. (CT).
