Volleyball Hosts Tulane In Midweek Matchup

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team continues its homestand when the Golden Eagles host Tulane in a mid-week C-USA match at 7 p.m. Livestats on GameTracker will be available Southernmiss.com web site.
The match has been designated as "Serving up a Cure" in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. A limited pink T-shirts will be on sale for $10. All proceeds and donations will go to the local charity "Waiting For A Cure."
Southern Miss (10-9) is coming off 2-0 weekend in which the Golden Eagles won both C-USA matches with wins over UCF and UTEP.
Junior Ashley continues her strong play for the Golden Eagles and leads the team with 333 kills. The outside hitter collected 31 kills including 23 against UCF for her seventh 20-plus kill match this season. Sophomore Halie Ecker, second on the team in kills, also turned in a solid weekend after posting 24 kills. Libero Lisa Knecht recorded a match-high 34 digs against UCF, marking her third 30-dig performance. Kelsea Seymour, who earned the conference Setter of the Week, is averaging 11.23 assists per set and has 176 digs.
Tulane (5-15) who finished 1-1 in over the weekend included a win against UTEP before losing to UCF in five sets. The Green Wave is led by second-year head coach Sinisa Momic and sophomore right side hitter Milica Jovic, who leads the team in kills with 214 (3.10 kps) with redshirt sophomore Izabela Grot is next at 211 (3.10 kps). Libero Amaris Genemaras is averaging 3.01 digs per set while setter Mel Mandelbaum is averaging 10.07 assists.
Tulane leads the all-time series with Southern Miss, 45-7. The series is one of the longer running series among the Golden Eagle opponents at 52.
Southern Miss closes out its homestand with matches against Marshall on Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., and against East Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 24, with first serve at 1 p.m.
