Several Golden Eagles Perform Well at Season Opening Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. - The Southern Miss indoor track and field team opened the 2010 season and posted several top performances at the LSU Purple Tiger Invite on Friday.
Sophomore Tori Bowie posted a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump with a jump of 6.19m (20'3.75"), placing first. Ke'Airra Jones had the top mark in the high jump with a jump of 1.75m (5'8.75"). Ashley May and Jessica Cheeks placed in the top five in the women's triple jump and posted marks of 12.01m (39'5") and 11.74m (38'6.25") to finish second and fourth, respectively. Rushae Collier placed seventh in the weight throw with a throw of 15.57m (51'1") with Petra Visic placing eighth with a throw of 15.10m (49'6.50").
Southern Miss placed three runners in the top eight in the 3,000 meters led by Krista Moylan with a team-best time of 10:38.29 to place fourth, followed by Zuna Portillo at fifth with a time of 10:40.31 and Stephanie Ledgerwood placed sixth with a time of 10:41.82.
Chastity Riggien and Bowie recorded two of the top times in the 60-meter dash with times of 7.51 and 7.52, respectively.
Robert Collingwood and Richard Collingwood recorded marks 15.78m (51'9.25") and 14.38m (47'2.25") in the shot put, placing third and seventh. Myreon Sartin posted a jump of 1.94m (6'4.25") in the high finishing in a tie for fourth. Ramon Crockett had a jump of 7.16m (23'6") in the long to finish sixth while Francisco Llanos was seventh with a jump of 14.38m (23'3.50").
The Golden Eagle teams return to action on Jan. 30 at the Houston Invitational.
