HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team completed their final day of full work for the Saturday's game against the Virginia Cavilers with a two hour practice Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles began the practice at the Joe P. Park practice facility before moving inside M.M. Roberts Stadium at Carlisle- Faulkner Field when the rain really started coming down about half way through practice.
"We had a good workout today," head coach Larry Fedora said. "We came over into the stadium when the fields started getting sloppy and I was really proud of the guys for staying focused and kept their intensity, which is always a hard thing to do."
The team completed their installation of the game plan this afternoon for Saturday's match up with the Cavilers and will spend Thursday and Friday polishing it.
While the Golden Eagles will face Virginia this weekend, the Southern Miss athletic department announced today that the Black and Gold will travel to Columbia, South Carolina to face off against the University of South Carolina in the opening game of the 2010 college football season and it will be televised nationally on ESPN.
"That game is a long way away and not something I have to worry about right now, but I think it is a great thing for our team and University. I am excited about it and I think the exposure will be a great thing for us when it happens," Fedora said.
The game will be the first meeting between the Golden Eagles and Gamecocks.
