Volleyball Team Travels To Nicholls State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team plays its fourth match away from Reed Green Coliseum when the Golden Eagles travel to Thibodaux, La, for a match against Nicholls State on Tuesday.
Southern Miss enters the match with a 2-1 record after finishing second in the Samford Invitational over the weekend. Sophomores Caitlin Clarke and Lauren Sears were named to the all-tournament team for their respective performances.
Clarke finished the weekend with 32 kills for a 3.20 kill per set average with an attack percentage of .276. She also recorded four aces, two digs and three total blocks.
Sears tallied 23 kills for a 2.30 kill per set average with an attack percentage of .311. She had one ace, four digs and 12 total blocks that included four block solos.
Clarke leads the team in kills (32) while Maia Ivanova leads the team in digs (49) and Sears leads the team in attack percentage (.311) and total blocks (1.20 b/s). Kelsea Seymour handled the majority of the setting duties, tallied 75 for the tournament.
Nicholls State comes in with a 0-3 record after losing three matches in the Mizuno Invitational at Rice. The Colonels dropped matches to Rice, Oklahoma and Houston Baptist.
Rachel Spreen leads the team in kills (24) while Danielle Daigle leads the team in digs (64). Head Coach Chris Laird, a former Southern Miss assistant coach, is in his fifth season in charge.
Following the Nicholls match, Southern Miss returns home to host the Southern Miss La Quinta Inn Invitational with teams Jacksonville, Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston State. Action gets underway Friday at 1 p.m., with Southern Miss taking on Sam Houston State followed by Louisiana Tech and Jacksonville at 3:30 p.m., and Southern Miss and Jacksonville concluding the first day at 7 p.m. All four teams will be in action again on Saturday with Sam Houston State and Louisiana Tech at 9 a.m., followed by Jacksonville and Sam Houston State at 11:30 a.m., and Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m., to close out the tournament.
