Volleyball Has Sneak Preview For The Public

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Golden Eagle volleyball fans can get a sneak preview of the 2009 volleyball team on Saturday, when the team will hosts a Black and Gold scrimmage at 2 p.m., in Reed Green Coliseum. Admission is free to the public.
Sixth-year coach Ricci Luyties returns 11 letterwinners, including four starters from last year's team that finished with a 17-13 record.
Heading the list of returnees include seniors Angela Hlavaty and Maia Ivanova, junior Lauren Broom and eight sophomores Sarah Jane Bowden, Caitlin Clarke, Amelia Hendrickson, Lisa Knecht, Ashley Mell, Lauren Sears, Kelsey Seymour and Bridget Whalen.
"We have high expectations for this season," Luyties said. "We are looking to do better than what we did last year. I believe we are going to take that next step."
Luyties also welcomes four newcomers Brianna Arvin, Halie Ecker, Mallory Horridge and Elizabeth Rinaudo.
Southern Miss opens the regular season on the road at Samford Tournament, Aug. 28-29, before playing at Nicholls State, Sept. 1. The Golden Eagles then return home to host their annual tournament, Sept. 4-5.
