HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Despite heavy rains during its two-plus hour football practice, Southern Miss was able to get through its entire workout here Monday afternoon.
After starting on the grass at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility, the Golden Eagles switched to the momentum turf at Carlisle-Faulkner Field to complete the day as the Golden Eagles worked in shoulder pads and shorts.
"Today went well," Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora said. "We started on the practice fields in the grass and moved around pretty good. Then when it came down for a while we decided to come inside The Rock."
Weather had not been a factor in the Golden Eagles' practice schedule this fall after it played havoc with them during the early going a year ago.
"Last year we had a lot more rain practices early on in camp and you forget about them this time of year," Fedora added. "But it was good to do all of the things in the rain, because I am sure we will have some games like that."
Fedora also said that senior Damion Fletcher is progressing as expected but may be limited in practice over the next few days.
The second-year coach also updated the status of sophomore receiver DeAndre Brown.
"He went for an x-ray today and the doctor is allowing him to do more in practice," Fedora said. "He went through some live reps today with no contact and he was running routes at full speed and doing some things he can do. It was promising."
Fedora also reiterated that Brown's recovery remains on schedule at this point during the preseason.
