HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team went through its final practice prior to its first scheduled scrimmage here Friday afternoon and Golden Eagle coach Larry Fedora said the team's preparation for Saturday's two-hour game situations was what he wanted to see.
"We got a lot of situational stuff in the day before the scrimmage and got after it pretty good," Fedora said. "We were in shorts and shoulder pads, but we practiced really hard and guys were really flying around. They know there a lot of jobs still up in the air and they can win some things here."
Fedora also addressed what he wanted to look for during his team's first exposure in game-like situations.
"The main thing I want to see in the scrimmage is for everyone play hard, execute and handle the situation we will put them in," Fedora added. "We are going to put them in a lot of different situations to see how they react. We will go live on the kicking game for the first time so we will see how they react to that as well."
The Golden Eagles open the season, Sept. 5, against Alcorn State. Game time is set for 6 p.m., at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium.
