HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head softball coach Howard Dobson announced the signing of catcher/infielder Danielle La Pointe (Wildomar, Calif.) to a national letter of intent and grant-in-aid agreement for the 2009-10 season.
La Pointe played catcher and third base for Elsinore High School where she led the team in batting with a .481 batting average. She finished her senior campaign with a team-leading 37 hits, including seven doubles, three triples and 14 runs batted in.
"Danielle is a versatile player who adds immediate depth to our corner and catcher positions," Dobson said. "She is a hitter who will add power and should see time in the middle of our lineup."
La Pointe earned first team all-league and all CIF-SS Division IV second team honors for two consecutive years in addition to earning The Press-Enterprise honorable mention honors in 2009. She was named the 2009 Female Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year.
La Pointe currently plays travel ball with the Minors Gold for Coach Mike Fitzgerald. She also earned letters in water polo, helping Elsinore win back-to-back league championships.
She is the daughter of Dan and Trish La Pointe.
