Softball Gets Addition For 2009-10 Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head softball coach Howard Dobson announced the signing of infielder Jill Mathis (Marianna, Fla.) to a national letter of intent and grant-in-aid agreement for the 2009-10 season.
Mathis played shortstop for Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City for the past two seasons, where she led the team in batting with a .380 batting average. She finished her sophomore campaign with a team-leading 71 hits, including 11 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs and 45 runs batted in. Her 12 home runs ranked in the top 40 nationally.
Mathis earned 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division I First Team All-South Region honors and also received third team All-American honors as an infielder. Mathis helped lead her to a 38-22 record, tying for 12th at the NJCAA Nationals in St. George, Utah, May 14-16.
The Marianna, Fla., native attended Marianna High School where she was a second team all-state performer for coach Natasha Braddy.
She is the daughter of Danny and Bunnee Mathis.
