Track and Field Eagles Compete at Ole Miss Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. - Southern Miss track and field teams competed in one last meet in preparation for the Conference USA Outdoor Championship, competing in the Ole Miss Invitational Saturday.
Marcus Norwood placed eighth in the high jump with a jump of 6'6.76". Ken Watson and Gray Ellis finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the triple jump with marks of 47'7" and 45'3.50".
Aaron Ammons recorded a mark of 53'6.50" in the shot, finishing second and Napoleon Benoit was seventh with a throw of 45'8.50". Ammons then placed fourth in the hammer with a throw of 147'8" and Benoit was sixth with a throw of 122'6". Kyle Smith had a throw of 205'7" in the javelin for a third-place finish. Noah Slater was seventh with a throw of 192'9" and Aston Williams finished eighth with a throw of 180'4".
Vincent Tanui ran a time of 14:22.68 in the 5,000 meters, placing second. The 4x100 meter relay team ran a time of 41.79 to finish fifth and the 4x400-meter relay team was fourth with a time of 3:19.47.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team finished second with a time of 3:44.59. Tori Bowie ran a time of 24.67 in the 200 meters to finish fourth. Cheris Fletcher placed fifth with a time of 55.68 in the 400 meters. Zuna Portillo-Rodriguez ran a time of 12:36.88 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Bowie recorded a mark of 19'3.25" in the long jump to finish fourth and Ashley May was fifth with a jump of 19'1.50". May posted a mark of 40'2" in the triple jump, finishing second, while Simona Costache was third with a jump of 39'3.75" and Jessica Cheeks was fourth with a jump of 37'4".
Cara Wells finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 120'6" with Candace Burgard finishing sixth with a throw of 104'3". Jessica Bussey was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 121'10" and Burgard was sixth with a throw of 104'11".
The Golden Eagles will compete next in the Conference USA Outdoor Championship in Tulsa, Okla., May 14-16.
