Softball Eagles Conclude Regular Season at Tulsa

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team will close out the regular season with a three-game series at Tulsa at the Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex. The Saturday doubleheader will be televised on CBS College Sports with first pitch set for 12:05 p.m., start, followed by a 2:35 start for game two.
Southern Miss is 25-24-2 overall and 10-10-1 in league play after a 6-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night. Ashley Razey tallied her sixth home run of the season with a three-run long ball. Seniors Kristin Pilgrim and Brittney Jones recorded two hits each.
Megan Hill paces Southern Miss on offense this season. The right fielder leads the squad in batting average at .409 to go along with 10 home runs, 15 doubles and 43 RBI. Senior Kristen Pilgrim is batting .359 with nine home runs and 38 RBI.
The Golden Eagle pitching staff has a 3.22 team earned run average as freshman Courtney Ramos (12-11) leads the way with a 2.39 ERA and a team-best 113 strikeouts in 149.1 innings of work. Senior Samantha Davis owns a 3.33 ERA and a record of 12-9 while working 138.2 innings.
Tulsa is 32-15 overall and 13-4 in league play following a sweep of UTEP last weekend. Tulsa has three players hitting over .300 led by Lauren Lindsey with a .377 clip to go with eight home runs and 32 RBI. Brooke Smart and Vanessa Vice are next with a .359 and 324 average, respectively.
Jackie Lawrence leads the Hurricane pitching staff with a 15-4 record and 1.41 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 134.0 innings of work. Jordan Kinard has pitched 107.1 innings with a 3.26 ERA and 121 strikeouts.
Tulsa leads the series with Southern Miss, 7-5, winning two of the three games last season in Hattiesburg. Following the Tulsa series, the both teams will head to the 2009 Conference USA Softball Championship presented by Helen of Troy held May 7-9 in El Paso, Texas.
