Softball Eagles Close Out Home Schedule Against Southeastern Louisiana

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss softball team will close out its home portion of its schedule, hosting Southeastern Louisiana in a midweek single game. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at the USM Softball Complex.
The game also marks the final home game for three seniors Samantha Davis, Kristin Pilgrim and Brittney Jones. The seniors will be honored in a postgame ceremony.
Southern Miss comes into the game with a 24-24-2 record overall and 10-10-2 in league after a loss to Houston in the series finale. The Eagles recorded only six hits that included three doubles in the 12-3 loss.
Junior Megan Hill continues to lead the team in hitting with a .411 batting average to go along with 10 home runs, 14 doubles and 413 runs batted in, while senior Kristin Pilgrim is next with a .352 clip with nine home runs and 38 RBI.
As for Golden Eagle pitching, freshman Courtney Ramos has tallied a 12-11 mark with a 2.39 earned run average, while senior Samantha Davis owns an 11-9 record and a 3.51 ERA in 131.2 innings. Ramos also has a team-best 113 strikeouts in 149.1 innings of work.
Southeastern Louisiana is 19-30 overall and 7-20 in the Southland Conference following a 2-1 loss to A&M-Corpus Christi. Katie Duhe leads the Lions offensively, batting .304 with 13 doubles, while Meghan Gomez has a team-best 24 RBI and eight home runs.
The pitching staff is sporting a team 4.26 ERA led by Catherine Gunther with a 9-13 record and 3.55 ERA in 132.0 inning pitched. Katelyn Thomason has worked 105.1 innings and has an ERA of 3.99.
This marks the 42nd meetings between the two teams. Southern Miss leads the series between the two teams, 21-20, dating back to 1985. The Golden Eagles won the last meeting between the two teams last season in Hammond.
Southern Miss closes out the regular season at Tulsa as the Saturday doubleheader will be televised nationally with first pitch set for 12:05 p.m., with game two to follow at 2:35 p.m. Both teams will face off again in a single game Sunday at noon.
