Golden Eagles Tracksters Record Improvements at LSU

BATON ROUGE -- The Southern Miss track and field team turned in several improvements at the LSU Alumni Gold track and field meet Saturday, highlighted by three athletes recording regional qualifying marks.
Tori Bowie took second place in the women's long jump invitational, recording a season-best jump of 6.30m (20'8") and a regional qualifying mark, while Ashley May placed third in the women's triple jump invitational with a mark of 12.81m (42'0.50"). Chastity Riggien ran a season-best time of 11.63 in the 100 meters, recording a regional qualifying time and placing second.
Bowie also ran a season-best time of 23.99 in the 200 meters, finishing third. Zuna Portillo-Rodriguez placed first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 1:41.90.
Sarah Omotayo finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.13.
Jessica Cheeks recorded a mark of 11.98m (39'3.75") in the triple jump, finishing fourth.
Kyle Smith recorded the top collegiate throw in the javelin with a mark of 63.88m (208'8") finishing third. Aaron Ammons placed fifth in the shot with a throw of 16.19m (53'1.50"). Cordell Kinn posted a time of 48.64 in the 400 meters to finish sixth.
The Southern Miss teams return to action when they host the Golden Eagle Classic, April 25.
