HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team heads into its third week of its spring exhibition season after competing in two tournaments.
The Golden Eagles begin their spring exhibition season competing in the Jackson State Tournament, posting wins over Jackson State, Southeastern Louisiana and West Alabama.
"Our setters, Kelsey Seymour and Bridget Whalen, played very well in the tournament," Coach Ricci Luyties said. "They both ran the offense smoothly and kept everyone involved in the game. Ashley Mell was a big factor at the net with her blocking and hitting."
The Golden Eagles then traveled to New Orleans, La., competing in a tournament at Tulane. Southern Miss played against Tulane, Kansas and UNO and came away with a 1-2 record.
"I had the opportunity to see some of the players who didn't get much playing time in the fall," Luyties said. "Amelia Hendrickson and Caitlin Clark had a great tournament. They were very consistent throughout all three matches."
Southern Miss wraps its spring season, playing in the LSU Tournament, April 25.
