HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Preparations continued for Saturday's annual Black and Gold spring football game for Southern Miss here, Wednesday, as the team went through a brisk two and a half hour workout on the Golden Eagle campus.
The first half of the practice took place at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility before moving the final half onto Carlisle-Faulkner Field with team with the team going through simulated scrimmage situations in preparations for the spring finale on Saturday.
"We had great tempo today," said second-year coach Larry Fedora. "The guys got after it and we had some good energy out there. They were flying around on both sides of the ball. It was the last day in pads for us and the next time we put full pads on it will be for the spring game."
Fedora also addressed the running back situation for the game Saturday as the Golden Eagles have gotten a little banged up at that position during the spring. "V.J. (Floyd) is probably about 80 percent right now and Desmond (Johnson) looks like he is back, so those two will be the ones that go on Saturday," said Fedora. "I don't know if (Tory) Harrison will be able to go are not. Ken Meeks will get some time as well as Kameron Roan."
Regardless of who plays, Fedora said his team is ready to perform for its fans under the lights Saturday night. "The prospect of having 30,000 people at the spring game has everyone excited about what is going on here," said Fedora. "The team is extremely excited and they cannot wait to get out here Saturday. It is a fun time for everyone when there are that many people in the stands for a spring game."
Tickets for Saturday's game are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Please note that tickets will be $15 for adults the day of the contest.
Season tickets are also available for the 2009 season and fans can purchase their tickets at the Pat Ferlise Ticket Center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., through the school's ticket office hotline at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or via online at SouthernMiss.com.
