Southern Miss Claims 4-3 Win Over Ragin' Cajuns

HATTIESBURG, Miss.
Southern Miss continued its home winning streak, winning its fifth home match against Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-3.
Southern Miss also continued its doubles winning streak, winning all three doubles matches. Andrew Poole and Jan Burmeister claimed an 8-4 win over Piotr Banas and Piotr Olechowski. Patricio Alvardo and Markus Wessinhage defeated Aren Domoney, 9-8, while Domagoj Anic and Diego Machuca tallied a 9-8 victory over Neil Schneider and Javier Pulgar-Garcia.
The singles competition developed into a close match. Patricio Alvarado defeated Piotr Olechowski at No. 1, 7-5, 6-4. Strate Krstevski also claimed a win for Southern Miss, defeating Bradley Bristow, 7-6, 6-3. Domagoj Anic came up short at No. 2, losing to Piotr Banas, 6-3, 6-2. Andrew Poole fell to Javier Pulgar-Garcia, 6-3, 6-2. Diego Machuca was also defeated, losing to Arlen Domoney, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.
Tied 3-3, the match decision came down to the No. 5 position, Oscar Machuca versus Ragin' Cajun Neil Schneider. After three sets, Machuca won the match, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
"It was a very close match. Once again, doubles was the key to our match, we haven't lost in doubles yet, which I am really proud of." said head coach Teddy Viator. "In singles we also played really well at No. 1, and No. 4, 5, and 6 also competed really hard. We beat a really good team."
The Golden Eagles are currently 6-3 in season play and will return to action Tuesday, March 10, as they host Southeastern Louisiana at Hattiesburg Country Club. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
