Lady Eagles Conclude Four-Game Homestand, Host Tulsa

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's basketball team concludes its four-game homestand, when the Lady Eagles host Tulsa Sunday while celebrating National Girls and Women Sports Day. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. and will be televised on CSS. All women and girls get in for $1 with the first 100 receiving a gift.
The Lady Eagle game can be heard on WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Josh West providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst.
Southern Miss is 15-7 overall and 8-1 league play following a 75-65 win over SMU in which five Lady Eagles scored in double figures led by Amber Eugene with 18 points, followed by Pauline Love her 17th double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Andrea Barber, Kendra Reed and Stephanie Helgeson had 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Barber also dished out 12 assists.
Love continues to lead the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, while Stephanie Helgeson is averaging 10.4 points. As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 69.5 points and 40.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 67.0 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles have connected on 94-of-283 from behind the arc.
Tulsa comes into the game with a 6-15 record overall and 2-7 in league play, after a 72-69 loss at UCF. Kara Vaughn poured in a game-high 24 points, while Larrissa Williams added a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds and Chanel Johnson chipped in 16 points.
Head Charlene Thomas-Swinson is in her fourth season at the helm and returns eight letterwinners, including all five starters from last year's team. Larrissa Williams leads Tulsa in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. The Golden Hurricane is averaging 56.0 points and 40.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 35.9 percent from the field and 65.0 percent from the charity stripe.
This sixth meeting between the two teams and Southern Miss trails the series 5-0.
Following the Tulsa game, the Lady Eagles hit the road for a two-game road swing at East Carolina (2/13) and Marshall (2/15).
