NEW ORLEANS - The Southern Miss football team completed its final practice for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Friday morning at Tulane.
The team went over special teams as well as fine-tuning its game plan for the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The game is set for 7:30 p.m., and can be heard on the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network as well as be seen on ESPN.
The team was originally scheduled to workout at the Louisiana Superdome, but was moved because of barricades on the field protecting the painted areas for Saturday night's NFL contest featuring the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys.
"We had a great practice today," Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora said. "We were going to try and go over to the Superdome but that didn't work out and our guys like no big deal came out and we got a lot of polish in today. We will get our walk-throughs in tomorrow and we will be ready to go."
Fedora said his team would have liked to have been able to work out in the Superdome but was pleased with his team's ability to adjust and put together a solid final practice before the team's eighth consecutive bowl appearance.
"I would have liked to," Fedora said of practicing in the Superdome. "It would have been nice for the guys to get under the lights and see the roof and all those things."
