HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss football coach Larry Fedora announced the signing of three junior college players for the 2010 season, including offensive linemen Lamar Holmes and Jason Weaver, along with wide receiver Kelvin Bolden.
"We are obviously very excited about the two offensive linemen in Holmes and Weaver that we are bringing in at mid-term as well as a talented wide receiver in Bolden," Fedora said. "These are guys we feel like can help us win a conference championship next year and that is why we got them on this football team."
Holmes, of Gastonia, N.C., played the last two seasons at Itawamba Community College where he was a first team MACJC North pick during his freshman campaign. The 6-foot-6, 340-lb., offensive lineman was a three-star performer by Scout.com and a four-star pick by Rivals.com.
Weaver, a New Orleans native and Edna Karr High School graduate, has spent the last two seasons at Western Arizona College in Yuma where his team finished 9-2 this season and earned a trip to the 2009 Mississippi Bowl. Slated to play at offensive tackle, Weaver is listed at 6-foot-5, 320 lbs.
Bolden, at 6-foot, 165 lbs., attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and finished the regular season with 779 yards receiving on 38 catches with 10 touchdown receptions. The All-Region 23 selection and first team MACJC pick tallied 236 yards receiving in the state championship game with three touchdown receptions.
Bolden, of Ocean Springs, Miss., also added a 194-yard receiving game on four catches against Hinds, a 172-yard contest against Southwest Mississippi CC on 13 catches and a pair of touchdowns and a 112-yard tilt against East Mississippi with three touchdowns during the year.
