HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team worked out for just under two hours under the lights inside M.M. Roberts Stadium at Carlisle Faulkner Field Sunday evening in preparation for the 2009 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
In the Golden Eagles eighth consecutive bowl game next week, they are preparing for a very unconventional Middle Tennessee defense.
"The coaching staff will finish the game plan tonight so we can really start getting some reps this week on it," head coach Larry Fedora said. "One thing we need to be ready for is that Middle Tennessee has given a lot of teams problems defensively, we really have our work cut out for us there."
The Golden Eagles will conduct three more on campus practices before traveling to New Orleans on Wednesday. While in the Big Easy they will work out two or three times before next Sunday's game in the Louisiana Superdome.
Kickoff for Southern Miss' 12th bowl game in the last 13 seasons will take place one week from tonight at 7:30 p.m., it can be heard on the Southern Miss ISP Sports Network as well as being nationally televised on ESPN.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-844-TICK (8425), or going online at SouthernMiss.com as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, Monday-through-Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Cost for the tickets are $40.
