Softball Team Goes 1-1 at the Fall College Classic

SPRING, Texas - The Southern Miss softball team opened their fall season, going 1-1 in the Fall College Classic in Spring, Texas at the Collins Park over the weekend.
The Golden Eagles dropped its first game to Texas, 7-1. Leslie LeJune had a double with Megan Hill, Logan James and Jill Mathis recording a single each. Hill was credited with the RBI.
Courtney Ramos, who pitched, allowed only three earned runs.
Southern Miss faced Alvin College in its second game and came away with a 10-2 win. Freshman Gabby Luciani took the circle for the Golden Eagles, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out four batters.
The Eagles pounded out 16 hits led by freshman Danielle La Pointe with three hits. Jill Mathis and Alexis Hurley each belted a home run and LeJune and Britney Dinelt added a triple apiece. Hill finished with two doubles and Chanell Thurman also had a double.
Southern Miss will continue its fall schedule with games scheduled for Oct. 10 and Oct. 11 at the Southern Miss Softball Complex. Game times are set for 12 p.m., with Pearl River and William Carey, followed by Southern Miss and Carey at 2 p.m., then Southern Miss and Pearl River at 4 p.m. Sunday's schedule begins with Co-Lin and William Carey at 1 p.m., followed by William Carey and Southern Miss at 3 p.m., and Co-Lin and Southern Miss at 5 p.m.
