Indoor Teams Turn In Season-Best Performances

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss indoor track and field teams competed in the LSU Purple Tiger Indoor and came away with several top performances.
Junior Ashley May recorded a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump with a jump of 12.70m (41'8"), placing first overall. May also finished third in the long jump, posting a season-best mark of 5.96m (19'6.75").
"I am very happy with the way our team went out and competed," head coach Kevin Stephen said. "We had a lot of improvements over last week and I attribute this to the dedication of our athleted and the hard work of our coaches."
Simona Costache placed third in the triple jump with a season best mark of 11.75m (38'6.75"), while Jessica Cheeks finished eighth with a jump of 11.54m (37'10.50).
Chastity Riggen ran a season best time of 7.65 in the 60-meter dash, while Tori Bowie ran a personal-best 7.69 with Sarah Omotayo turning in a personal best time of 7.81. Romesha Anderson registered a season-best time with a time of 8.02. Chastity Tyler ran a season best time of 8.38 and Kimberly Walker also ran a season-best time of 8.47.
Zuna Portillo-Rodriguez placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:28.08. She also ran a time of 5:38.44 in the one-mile.
Omotayo ran a personal best time of 9.14 in the 60-meter hurdles in the semifinal round.
Suesanna Williams was third in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 16.59m (54'5.25") with Rushae Collier finishing eight with a throw of 14.21m (46'7.50"). Williams followed with a second-place finish in the shot with season-best 13.39m (43'11.25"). Candace Burgard was fourth with a season best throw of 12.32m (40'5").
The 4x400-meter relay team improved on their time, posting a season best time of 3:58.77 and a placed fourth.
On the men's side, Leonard McLeggon placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a season best time of 8.32.
Mario Spann ran a season best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.00, while Gary Ellis also ran a season best time of 7.19.
Marcus Norwood and Myreon Sartin posted a season best marks in the height jump with jumps of 1.93m (6'4").
McLeggon also recorded a season best mark in the long jump with a jump of 6.85m (22'5.75"). Ellis registered a season best jump in the triple jump with a mark of 14.55m (47'9").
Aaron Ammons placed sixth in the weight throw with a season best throw of 15.67m (51'5"). He followed up with a season-best throw of 16.05m (52'8"). Napoleon Benoit recorded a personal best with a throw of 13.81m (45'3.75").
The teams travel to Houston for the Houston Indoor, Jan. 30.
