HATTIESBURG, Miss.- - The Southern Miss football team held the first two-a-day practice of the 2008 fall camp Thursday at the Joe P. Park Practice Fields.
"The guys responded well today to the first two-a-day practice," head coach Larry Fedora said. "Everyone had great attitudes and I was really pleased with the way we headed into the second practice even in the adverse conditions."
The Golden Eagles hit the practice field in helmets and shoulder pads for the morning practice which began at 8:45 a.m. and lasted just over two hours as the temperatures rose into the 90's on a cloudless Hattiesburg morning.
Southern Miss held the second practice of the day in full pads beginning at 4:45 and lasting approximately two hours dodging thunderstorms and practicing in the rain which at times was extremely heavy.
"We do not really ever talk about the weather, we know we could have to play in these conditions so we practice in it," Fedora added.
Today was the first of three scheduled two-a-day practices before classes start on August 20.
The Golden Eagles will return to the practice field tomorrow for their ninth practice of fall camp and are scheduled to workout in shorts and shoulder pads beginning at 4:30 p.m. The team will hold the first scrimmage of the season Saturday evening.
The Golden Eagles open the 2008 season vs. Louisiana-Lafayette at "The Rock" on August 30.
