Softball Gets Late Addition For 2008-09 Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss head softball coach Howard Dobson announced the signing of infielder Alexis Hurley (Corona, Calif.) to a grant-in-aid agreement for the 2008-09 season.
"We are extremely excited about Alexis joining our team," Dobson said. "She is a very versatile athlete that can play both first and third bases, as well as catch. She adds instant depth to our lineup and definitely increases our power at the plate."
Hurley played one season at Hope International University in Fullerton, Calif., where she led the team in batting with a .356 average. She finished her freshman campaign with a team-leading 53 hits, including 17 doubles, two triple and two home runs and 49 runs batted in, while starting 48 games.
The Corona, Calif., native attended Temescal Canyon High School, where she was a three-year letterwinner for Coach Kevin Simpson. Hurley helped her team to a 22-6 record, advancing to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs. She batted .413 with 19 hits, including three doubles and six home runs to go with 22 RBI also helping the her team win the Southwestern League championship.
Hurley played travel ball with the OC Lionettes Gold Team coached by John Wilson and Mike Fitzgerald.
She is the daughter of Bob and Barbara Hurley.
