Four Southern Miss Football Players Recognized by Blue Ribbon Magazine

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Four Southern Miss football players earned 2008 preseason recognition by Blue Ribbon Magazine in its annual football edition.
Senior Ryan McKee, along with juniors Damion Fletcher and Gerald McRath, all were named to the preseason All-Conference USA team by the publication.
Fletcher, from Biloxi, Miss., also was tabbed the preseason Offensive Player of the Year at running back, while McRath, who hails from Powder Springs, Ga., got the nod as the league's preseason Defensive Player of the Year at linebacker.
Incoming freshman DeAndre Brown (Ocean Springs, Miss.) was selected as the C-USA Newcomer of the Year by the publication.
Fletcher, McKee and McRath also were acknowledged as preseason first-team picks by both Athlon Sports and Lindy's preseason football magazines. Senior Shawn Nelson (Gonzales, La.), and sophomore C.J. Bailey (Moss Point, Miss.) garnered first team honors by Athlon Sports. Nelson received a second-team nod by Lindy's, while senior kicker/punter Britt Barefoot (Laurel, Miss.) was a second-team selection by both Athlon and Lindy's.
