Men's Tennis Team Falls to Memphis, 4-3

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team ended its regular season with a 4-3 loss to Memphis Saturday.
Southern Miss dropped to 8-13 and 1-3 in C-USA, while Memphis improved to 7-11 and 1-3.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles' point. Amrit Narasimhan and Charlie Ramsey downed Diego Machuca and Markus Wessinghage at No. 1 doubles and Jimmy Khougassian and Leon Nasemann had to use a tie-breaker in defeating Jan Burmeister and Andrew Poole, 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2. Domagoj Anic and Oscar Machuca won at No. 3, 8-6, over Spencer Heflin and Jordan Smith.
Southern Miss battled back to win three singles' matches. Burmeister defeated Khougassian, 6-1, 7-6 (5) at No. 3 singles, followed by Andrew Poole knocking off Nasemann at No. 2 in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. Oscar Machuca topped Ramsay in three sets at No. 5, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4.
Wessinghage had his six-match winning streak snapped with a 6-3, 6-3, loss to Benedikt Fischer at No. 6. Anic, who missed the last five matches recovering from a concussion, lost at No. 1 to Narasimhan, 6-2, 6-4.
Gaerthoeffne clinched the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) win over Diego Machuca at No. 4.
Southern Miss will next play in the Conference USA Tournament, April 18-20, in Dallas, Texas.
