UTEP Defeats Southern Miss, 10-2, in Game Two

EL PASO, Texas - UTEP used a six-run third inning add an additional three runs in the fourth to defeat Southern Miss in game two of the double-header, 10-2.
Southern Miss falls to 23-27 and 7-13 in league play while UTEP improves to 29-19 and 10-10.
The Lady Eagles finished with only five hits in the game. The Miners pounded out nine hits, including four doubles and one home run.
Megan Hill recorded two of the three hits with Kristen Pilgrim, Logan James and Jennifer Fox adding a hit apiece.
Southern Miss scored its first runs of the game in the top of the fourth when James singled to the right of the second base. Fox then followed with a double to right center. Karissa Jones came on to pinch run for Fox. Lauren Castellvi grounded out to the shortstop, recording an RBI to score James. Karissa Jones scored on Brittney Jones' fielder's choice.
The Lady Eagles added one more hit in the top of the fifth on a single by Hill, who advanced all the way to third, but Southern Miss could not push the run across the plate.
Meghan Harbuck (2-8), who got the start, worked only 2.2 innings took the loss for Southern Miss, while Kelly Curran got the win (8-4) for the Miners. Lana Vaughn came on to work 1.1 innings.
Southern Miss and UTEP wrap up the series Sunday in a single game at 1 p.m.
