HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss completed its 15th and final spring practice here Tuesday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
The Golden Eagles took advantage of a cool spring afternoon by going through a 2 ½ hour workout in shorts and shoulder pads. It was the last time for the team to work on the new offensive and defensive schemes that they have been putting in place under first-year coach Larry Fedora.
The Southern Miss coach liked his team's progress over the last month as they prepare for the 2008 campaign.
"Overall, I think we have at least an understanding of the system, we're not perfect every time, but I think we've got a basic understanding of what we're trying to do," Fedora said.
Fedora said that the welcome for him and his staff to the Southern Miss family has been incredible since his hiring in December.
"It's been overwhelming the way the fans have supported us," Fedora said. "They're excited about what we're doing and we're obviously excited about it as well. When our guys get out there at the spring game and see those 11,000 plus fans they get excited about it too, so it's been great."
The Golden Eagles open the 2008 season, Aug. 30, when they play host to Louisiana-Lafayette at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium. For ticket information regarding the upcoming season, please call 1-800-844-TICK (8425) or go online at SouthernMiss.com.
