Softball Faces UAB at Home This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss looks to continue its winning ways at home this season when they entertain UAB in a Conference USA series this weekend at the USM Softball Complex.
The two teams will play a 1 p.m., Saturday doubleheader and complete the set with a 1 p.m., Sunday single game.
The Lady Eagles (16-18 overall, 2-7 C-USA) have captured eight of 11 contests at home in 2008. That includes a 5-0 and 8-0 (five innings) doubleheader sweep of Northwestern State on Wednesday.
In that sweep, Southern Miss did record 21 hits in the two games and sophomore Megan Hill led the way with five hits, including home runs, and five RBIs. Hill now leads the team in both categories with four home runs and 23 RBIs to go along with a .320 batting average.
Senior Jennifer Fox paces the team in batting average at .351 to go along with three homers and 17 RBIs. Senior Brittney Pigott saw her average rise to .286 after three hits in the NSU twinbill, while Kristin Chaney now is batting at a .280 clip after a four-hit performance against the Demons.
Junior Samantha Davis continues to lead the Southern Miss pitching staff with a 7-7 record to go along with a 2.78 earned run average. Freshman Lana Vaughn is next with a 4-3 mark with a 2.79 ERA.
The Lady Eagles also continue to play solid defense, committing just 30 errors in 34 games for a .971 fielding average.
The Blazers (17-19, 4-5) counter with their top two hitters Andrea Rogers, who has accumulated a .330 batting average with no home runs and 13 RBIs. Holly Krzan is next at .327 with three homers and 16 RBIs.
In the circle, Jennifer Nelson is the top UAB pitcher with a 10-13 record to go along with a 3.04 ERA and 174 strikeouts in 149 2/3 innings.
