Softball Team Drops Game 1 of Doubleheader, 3-2

GREENVILLE, NC - East Carolina's Sissy Jimenez put a hit just out of the reach of first baseman Logan James to plate Angel Barrella from third, helping ECU to a 3-2 win in the first game of a double header.
Davis (5-5) went the distance for the Golden Eagles too the loss, while Brooke Swann (11-7) got the win for the Pirates.
ECU led 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Brittney Pigott reached base on a walk. Allison Bullard followed with a single through the leftside. Kristin Chaney then moved the runners to second and third on a ground out to third. With one out, Megan Hill laced a double to center field, plating Bigott and Bullard to tie the game at 2-2.
Southern Miss threatened in the first inning with a runner in scoring position, again in the fourth with the bases loaded with one out, and yet again in the sixth with a runner at third.
ECU pushed the first run across the plate in the bottom of the fifth after a leadoff double by Moreno, who scored off a single by Sumner with two outs. The Pirates went ahead, 2-0, in the bottom of the sixth after Jessica Johnson led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Cristen Aona singled up the middle to score pinch runner, Sarah Bibee from second.
Southern Miss finished the game with seven hits with one error, while the Pirates had 11 hits and one error.
