Volleyball Team Hosts Marshall and East Carolina In Weekend Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Lady Eagle volleyball team host Marshall on Friday and East Carolina on Sunday in a weekend series. Sunday's match has been designated as "Go Gold Day". Fans can bring a donation of canned goods and receive a "Go Gold" t-shirt.
Southern Miss (9-9, 0-2) is coming off a 3-1 loss at Houston. Amanda Huntoon led the way with a team-high 16 kills, with Angela Hlavaty, Morgan Johnson and Ashley Hlavaty tallying 12 kills apiece. Jillian Neave recorded 51 assists. Maia Ivanova had 20 digs, followed by Johnson with 13, Petrinec with 12, Mari Ruddick with 11 and Amy Flarity with 10 digs as well.
Johnson paces a balanced Eagle attack with 188 kills. Four other players have 100 or more kills on the season, including Ashley Petrinec with 173, Huntoon has 305, Angela Hlavaty has 120 and Ruddick has 112. Maia Ivanova continues to lead the team in digs (257) and service aces (26). Neave is averaging 11.29 assist per game.
Marshall (9-7, 2-0) comes into the match following a 3-1 win over Tulsa. C-USA Preseason Player of the Year, Kelly-Anne Billingy leads the team with 251 kills and Maggie Arias leads the team digs with 255. The other players have 10o or more kills on the season. Elizabeth Fleming is averaging 12.65 assists per game.
East Carolina (10-7) is coming off a 3-2 win over SMU. Kelley Wernert leads the Pirates with 320 kills. Trish Monroe leads the team in digs with 285, while Katie Koop is averaging 12.02 assists per game.
Following the weekend series, Southern Miss returns hits the road for matches at Memphis on Oct. 5 and UAB on Oct. 7.
