2007 Golden Eagle Postgame Notes
Southern Miss at Boise State Sept. 27, 2007
Bronco Stadium/Boise, Idaho
(Attendance - 30,159)
* Tonight's captains for Southern Miss were No. 74 Rick Thompson, No. 87 Chris Johnson and No. 91 Robert Henderson.
* The Golden Eagles made their second trip to Boise and are now 0-2 at Bronco Stadium, having lost the other meeting, 42-35, to Idaho in the 1998 Humanitarian Bowl. Southern Miss became the 54th team to lose at Boise State in the Broncos last 56 home games, dating back to 1999.
* Quarterback Jeremy Young just missed his third straight game with at least 200 passing yards when he left with an injury late in the third quarter. Prior to the injury, he was 13-of-23 for 190 yards and one touchdown.
* Tonight marked the first time that the Golden Eagles have lost when Damion Fletcher tallies a rushing score. The one-yard touchdown in the second quarter was his 14th career rushing touchdown. Southern Miss is now 8-1 when Fletcher scores a touchdown.
* Sophomore Gerald McRath registered double digit tackles for the fourth straight game this season, finishing with a team-high 13 stops. It was his sixth consecutive game with 10 or more tackles, dating back to last season.
* Senior Brandon Sumrall tallied his seventh career interception and first of 2007 with a first quarter pick in the end zone that ended a potential scoring drive. He finished the night with 10 tackles.
* Justin Estes, a freshman from Marietta, Ohio, now has converted 4-of-6 field goals with his 39-yard make in the second quarter.
* The third quarter extra point that hit the upright off the foot of Justin Estes ended a streak of 24 consecutive made PATs by Southern Miss kickers.
* Junior Shawn Nelson caught a touchdown pass for the second straight game, reeling in a 23-yard scoring reception to cap the opening drive of the second half.
* Senior Chris Johnson led all Golden Eagle receivers in catches (5) and yards (71). He has three straight games with five or more receptions.
* The 505 yards of total offense by Boise State was the most that Southern Miss had given up since allowing 546 to California on Dec. 4, 2004. That was also the last time that a team ran for 300 yards against Southern Miss as Cal ran for 323 that night.
